ECTMIH 2023 arts and culture intern: Mirjam de Leeuw

Last month we met with Mirjam de Leeuw who is finishing a Master's degree in medical humanities at Utrecht University and who has just completed an internship on arts and culture for ECTMIH 2023.

Some key takeaways from Mirjam:

The main aims of her ECTMIH2023 internship and how she approached it

The main aim was to gain more insight on the impact that arts can have on health. To do this she conducted desk research and also interviewed several artists, in order to advise the ECTMIH 2023 Committee on how different art forms could be incorporated into the Congress programme.

The main outputs of her ECTMIH2023 internship and how she would like to see these being used

Art can have a wide range of positive effects on health and on society in general. She hopes that her findings will be translated into several installations and events at the congress, such as a pop-up bookstore, at least on exhibition, as well as music and spoken word performances.
